Rather than a cereal seed, canary seed is the produce of annual canary grass. The seed itself is soft and easily digestible making it ideally suited for Canaries, Finches and Budgerigars and is the main ingredient for many mixtures for these and larger Parakeets. It is higher in proteins and fats than millet seeds but lower in carbohydrates.
