The key ingredient in a fat ball is suet which is pure refined animal or vegetable fat which is one of the most concentrated and easily metabolised energy foods for wild birds.  They are great as an all year-round food and can even cope with frost.

These fat balls can be used on bird tables, feeders or on the ground, it is recommended that you feed wild birds all year round, through both the colder winter months and the spring and summer to help adult birds raise their young.
